Elm (Year 1)
Mrs Johnston, Mrs Aloysius and Miss Sermons welcome you to Elm class!
Our curriculum covers three exciting topics as well as lots of opportunity for discussions on our Values during our twice daily circle times. Teaching of Phonics, English and Maths takes place daily.
PE day is Thursday and children should come into school in appropriate kit for the weather.
Reading books and home work / spelling books should be in every day in the plastic zip folders provided. Books will be changed on Fridays but the children could read on any day of the week. Spellings (which are shared on Class Dojo) should be practised in one page of their homework book. In line with the home work policy, it is expected that children read regularly at home, ideally every day, practise their spellings and use their knowledge organiser to embed basic knowledge relating to other areas of our curriculum.
All children in Year 1 take part in the Year 1 phonics screening check in June which consists of real and nonsense words containing phonetically decodable graphemes.
We also use a termly assessment termly to identify any areas for support and extension.
