Cedar (Year 2)
Mrs Moore, Miss Canfield, Mrs Andrews, Mrs Johnston and Mr Rosmini welcome you to Cedar class!
Through the year, our curriculum covers three interesting topics which encompass a range of subjects including history and geography. Phonics, English and Maths are taught daily, and we have twice daily circle times which can involve the current month’s Value. PE takes place every Wednesday, when children should come into school in PE kit appropriate for the weather. Daily physical exercise can include the ever popular “Golden Mile” when weather permits.
Our school homework policy sets the expectation that children read regularly at home, (ideally every day), practise their spellings (again, daily practise is recommended) and use their knowledge organisers to embed basic knowledge relating to other areas of the curriculum. ‘Home Packs’ are provided for children to transport their reading records, reading books and homework / spelling books to and from school every day. Reading books will normally be changed on Fridays but the children could read at school on any day of the week. Spellings (which are shared on Class Dojo) should be practised in one page of their homework book in preparation for tests which are normally on Friday mornings.
This year, children in Year 2 will take part in a Phonics Screening Check in the second half of the Autumn term, which was originally scheduled for June 2020 when they were in Year 1, but did not take place due to Covid19. The usual Key Stage 1 Standard Assessments will also take place in May.
