Who are the FLS and what do we do?
We are parents, carers and supporters of children at the school. We work together, voluntarily, to raise money and provide events and activities for the children. We work closely with the teachers and governors to make sure that every penny we raise is used to enhance the learning experiences of all the children. We meet regularly with Mr Bardell to share ideas for fundraising and identify what aspects of school life would benefit from some extra support.
Welcome to the Friends of Laburnum School (FLS). The FLS plan, prepare and carry out fun activities for the children and families throughout the school year while raising important funds for Laburnum Primary School children.
Our committee team is currently represented by the Chair person, Treasurer, Secretary, General members and Staff representatives. We also have other supporters who are parents, grandparents, carers, aunties, uncles and other supporters of the FLS without whom we couldn't do what we do. They bake, make, create, help set up before and clear up after events. They also help in many other ways such as manning stalls at the Frost or Summer Fayre, providing and running the disco, and carrying out DIY jobs for us. This could be just a couple of hours a year, but it really does make a big difference to the success of the events we put on.
Please let us know if you would be able to help or offer a service that would be useful at email@example.com

What else do we need and how can you help?
As well as our team of members and parent / carer supporters we also have parents of children at the school who offer us donations from the places they work or the businesses they own. For example Simon Robertson, our resident DJ, gives his time and services freely. One parent works for a supermarket depot, another is a mortgage advisor (who sponsors events), another is a graphic designer, another is a carpenter and they offer their services, as we need them. And it’s not just parents and carers; “Nanna Cake” as we call her, makes and donates the most beautiful cakes because she wants to support the school.
These helpers can’t commit their time but they want to get involved in raising money for the school so they support us in other ways. Every time we get something at a reduced rate or for free we increase our profits and can pass more money on to the school.
We also have around another 10 parent / carer helpers, who offer their services in other ways, such as manning stalls at the Frost or Summer Fayre, providing and running the disco, and carrying out DIY jobs for us etc. This could be just a couple of hours a year, but it really does make a big difference to the success of the events we put on.
If you could help us in this way, please let us know, without these “background” helpers we wouldn’t make as much money as we do.
Please let us know if you would be able to help with any of our events. The amount of help required depends on the event and any time you can spare is most gratefully received. Many of the events need behind the scenes preparation in advance, for example baking cakes, wrapping presents, shopping, decorating for discos, blowing up balloons etc.
If you can give a little of your time please speak to one of us or let the office know and they will pass the message on.
