EYFS
At Laburnum Primary School, our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides a nurturing, ambitious and knowledge-rich start to every child’s learning journey. We believe that all children are unique, capable and curious learners who thrive in an environment that inspires confidence, creativity and a lifelong love of learning.
All our pupils are entitled to a knowledge-rich curriculum where knowledge is valued, specified, well-sequenced and taught to be remembered. The curriculum in the Laburnum Primary School Early Years is based on Foundation Stage plans created by the Primary Knowledge Curriculum (PKC). We have carefully considered the ambitious, knowledge-rich units and adapted them to meet the needs of our youngest pupils, ensuring that every child can access and enjoy learning that both challenges and inspires them.
Our curriculum takes children beyond the limits of their personal experiences and the classroom, giving them the tools to establish a strong sense of identity and to feel empowered by the knowledge they have of the world around them.
We place a strong emphasis on vocabulary development, ensuring that pupils are confident communicators and well-prepared to move into Year 1. Phonics is taught through the Sounds-Write programme, providing a secure foundation for early reading and writing.
Our curriculum is underpinned by the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, which sets the national standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to five. This ensures that all children learn and develop well, are kept healthy and safe, and build the broad range of knowledge and skills needed for future success.
Through high-quality teaching, purposeful play and rich experiences, our children are encouraged to explore, question and discover. Working closely with families, we provide a safe, inclusive and stimulating environment where every child is valued, supported and inspired to flourish – in school and beyond.
