🏊‍♂️ Our annual swimming lessons are officially underway at Laburnum! Come rain or shine, our pupils are making a splash, building confidence in the water, developing essential life skills, and having lots of fun along the way. 🌧️☀️ We are incredibly lucky to have our own school pool, giving every child the opportunity to develop their swimming skills in a familiar and supportive environment. Swimming is such an important part of our curriculum, helping children stay active, safe, and healthy while creating wonderful memories with their classmates. We can't wait to see the progress everyone makes over the coming weeks. 🌿🌎 Eco Day at Laburnum Primary School 🌎🌿 At the end of May, our pupils enjoyed a fantastic whole-school Eco Day, packed with activities to help us learn more about caring for our environment and appreciating the natural world. We were delighted to welcome a visitor from The Wildlife Trust, who introduced us to the 30 Days Wild Challenge taking place throughout June. The challenge encourages everyone to spend just 10–20 minutes outdoors each day, connecting with nature through simple activities such as watching a sunrise or sunset, making flower crowns, pressing flowers, or cloud watching. There are lots more ideas available on the Wildlife Trust website. https://www.wildlifebcn.org/30dayswild Our children embraced the eco theme across the day through a range of engaging activities. We became true Eco Warriors by litter picking around the school grounds and learning how to save energy at home and at school. Some classes planted seedlings, bedding plants and vegetables, helping to care for and improve our outdoor spaces. Pupils also explored local wildlife, learned about habitats and biodiversity, and took part in creative nature-themed activities. Some classes even reused old milk bottles to make watering cans, demonstrating how everyday items can be given a new purpose. What a fantastic and busy May it has been across Laburnum Primary School so far! 🌟 From Nursery through to Year 6, our children have been exploring, creating, achieving and making us proud every single day. Here are just some of the highlights from across the school this month! 🎨 Nursery children enjoyed transition activities and created wonderful artwork inspired by The Colour Monster Goes to School, helping them explore emotions and new experiences in a creative way. 👑 Reception children have been learning about healthy exercise and proudly made beautiful crowns fit for kings and queens. 📸 Year 1 became photographers inspired by Hockney and also designed and built fantastic vehicles. 🎨 Year 2 created Minotaur-inspired artwork and impressed us with their enthusiasm and determination in gymnastics. 🌿 Year 3 enjoyed an exciting visit to the Cambridge Botanic Gardens, bringing their learning to life through nature and discovery. 🏏 Our Year 3 & 4 children represented the school brilliantly at the cricket tournament, showing excellent teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship. 🖌️ Year 5 explored the creative world of screen printing and developed their computing skills by programming Crumbles. ✏️ A huge well done to Year 6, who have worked incredibly hard during their SATs. We are so proud of their resilience, focus and positive attitude throughout the week.
