Who are the FLS and what do we do?

We are parents, carers and supporters of children at the school.  We work together, voluntarily, to raise money and provide events and activities for the children. We work closely with the teachers and governors to make sure that every penny we raise is used to enhance the learning experiences of all the children.  We meet regularly with Mr Bardell to share ideas for fundraising and identify what aspects of school life would benefit from some extra support.

Friends of Laburnum School

Welcome to the Friends of Laburnum Primary School or the FLS. We are a group of parents and teachers who volunteer our time to raise additional funds for the school. We do this by planning and preparing fun events throughout the year for children and their families to attend.

As a parent of a child at the school, you are automatically a member of our constitution.  Your help, knowledge and support are always needed and valued, meetings happen throughout the year, so please keep an eye out for dates and feel free to come along. We will be ready to welcome you with a smile, a cuppa, and a time to chat about this year’s events and share ideas

Our committee team is currently represented by the chairperson, treasurer, and a secretary, core members, general members, and staff representatives.

It’s not just about making money

We want all of our children to attend a school that is fun and enjoyable and creates those memories and experiences academically and socially. The FLS want to keep that alive and provide that “winter wonderland” experience where they met Santa in his grotto... or that summer fate where they dunked their teacher with soaking wet sponges.

Where they had a great time watching a movie with all their friends, or that amazing disco where they dressed up and played games.  We want our children to know that their parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles and carers supported their school, not just financially, but with their time and making memories.

How does the money get spent that we raise?

All the money raised by the FLS goes back into the school. This is a small list of things the money has contributed towards over the last couple of years.

  • Support towards the new library build and the purchase of books.

  • Reducing the costs of school trips for each child and the transport.

  • Musical instruments

How do we raise the money?

  • Christmas Fayre

  • Summer Fetes

  • Raffles

  • Film nights and outdoor cinema evenings

  • Disco’s

  • Mother’s Day and Father’s Day teas and breakfasts

  • Cake Sales

  • Easter events

  • Refreshments at school productions and sports days

  • Curry and Quiz nights

  • Craft event evenings

  • New this year 2021 we are adding a pizza making and wine night.

  • These are just some of the things we do to raise money, if you have your own ideas, please let us know. We are always looking for new ideas. Feedback is also valued.

  • You can always contact the FLS through: and let us know what you’re thinking or any questions you may have

We could not make anything we do possible without you, so thankyou for supporting laburnum and its students. Remember all the money that you help us raise goes back to school, helping your children get the most out of their education, and the time spent here.
