Willow (Year 4)
Mr Mepham and Mrs Shaw welcome you to Willow class!
PE day is Friday, and homework is also set on Friday. In line with our homework policy, home learning must be completed every week at home to embed and practise skills learnt and revisited at school. Homework will primarily be a combination of spellings and times table practice.
In Year 4, children are assessed on their times table knowledge during the summer term and are expected to be able to fluently and efficiently recall all tables up to 12. (A practice assessment can be found on TT Rockstars under the game name Soundcheck.)
Throughout the academic year, we focus on our Values curriculum and spend time developing a deeper understanding of our emotions in our twice daily circle times. Children learn about a range of topics (Romans, Weather around the world and Our World), Science units (electricity, sound, the water cycle and the human digestive system), Computing skills (programming, animation and word processing) and have the opportunity to produce a range of writing compositions (recounts, narratives, non-fiction writing, poetry and speeches). Year 4 are also very lucky in that they learn to play the trombone across the year, taught by a specialist teacher. They also build on their French from year 3 as well as developing their skills in sports and games in PE, and getting stuck into the creative arts in Art and DT.
