Sycamore (Year 5)
Mrs Godfrey, Mrs Jarman, Miss Bloss, and Mrs Johnston welcome you to Sycamore class!
As the children transition into upper key stage two, we encourage them to think and behave as role models for the rest of the school.
Homework is set on Friday and due in the following Thursday. In line with our homework policy, home learning must be completed every week at home to embed and practise skills learnt and revisited at school. Children will also have an opportunity to change their reading books throughout the week and should be reading at home, ideally everyday but certainly once a week with an adult.
Children will be tested on their spellings and times tables every Friday. We strongly encourage children to hone their rapid recall of multiplication facts as it is essential knowledge for the children to successfully access the year five maths curriculum and will certainly be a skill that serves them well in year six and beyond.
PE day is Monday and children should dress appropriately for the weather.
There is, as in the rest of the school a strong emphasis on values within the classroom and playground. There are opportunities in daily circle time to discuss values and responsibilities as pupils in school and our community.
The wider curriculum is taught in the afternoon which includes science, the creative curriculum and topic. The topic for the autumn term is Ancient Maya, spring term is Anglo Saxons and Vikings and the summer term is Earth and space. Each topic has a knowledge organiser and quiz to support learning.
